The four years that i spent at JMU have
allowed me to grow in ways that i never
could have imagined. My professors
have challenged me, i have discovered
who i want to be, and i have made
incredible friends. These experiences
would not have been possible without
the support of Alpha spitzer (’37). not
only have i have received an outstanding
education, but i have gained a family
and a home away from home. one
of the aspects of JMU that really stands
out compared to other universities is
the number of opportunities students
have to make a difference in the world.
i am so glad that i got the chance to
volunteer for one of Madison’s many
Hurricane Katrina relief trips to new
orleans. This was the first time in my
life that i was able to contribute in a
hands-on way to help people in need.
it really made me think about what
kind of a person i want to be and how
important it is to help out those around
us who need it. The people that we met
and the difference that we made was an
incredible experience. Thank you Miss
spitzer for helping me have a Madison
experience that changed my life.

had children, but
as teachers our
lives were full of
them. it means
so much that our
scholarships help
someone else’s
children.’
