scholarship legacies
the legacy of scholarship assistance at a university like Madison
is that scholarships make an immediate difference in the life
of a student who, in turn, can go out and make a difference in
his or her community. with scholarship assistance i was able
to pay for college, and i had the opportunity to represent JMU
in the 2007 Phoenix Project’s nonprofit Leadership Program
in Petersburg. the program transforms undergraduate students
into effective social entrepreneurs who can succeed in Virginia’s
nonprofit sector. the program gave me the direction, motivation,
knowledge, skills and invaluable connections to
pursue a marketing communications career in the
nonprofit sector.
